About Me

JamesWaterfall

My name is James Pate. This blog is about my journey.  I read books.  I watch movies and TV shows.  I go to church.  I try to find meaning.  And, when I can’t do that, I just talk about stuff that I find interesting.

I have degrees in fields of religious studies. I have an M.Phil. in the History of Biblical Interpretation from Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I also have an M.A. in Hebrew Bible from Jewish Theological Seminary, an M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School, and a B.A. from DePauw University.

  3. Having done the seminary and scripture “thing” a number of years ago, and teaching World Wisdom over the years in Interfaith settings, I’m intrigued you chose this path. I wonder what you think of this line from John Muir (who, by the way, had the bible memorized while a lad in Scotland):
“Miles and miles of tree scripture along the sky, a bible that will one day be read! The beauty of its letters and sentences have burned me like fire through all these Sierra seasons. Yet I cannot interpret their hidden thoughts. . . . How complete is the absorption of one’s life into the spirit of mountain woods.” ~John Muir, Letter to Jeanne Carr (September, 1874)
As a secular person now I ask, this seems to transcend all “revealed holy books” doesn’t it?

You sound like Thomas Paine! Only I suppose that he focused on nature’s order, not so much its mystery.

  5. Dear James,
I recently wrote the book Breaking Free: How to Be Completely Free from Any Addiction, and I am looking for some reviewers for Amazon and/or people’s websites. I found you are a Christian blogger and review books. I think my book may interest you.
My book will be free to download this coming Tuesday and Wednesday (9/9-9/10): http://amzn.to/1qafe5c. You can see a brief write-up on my site: http://prayer-coach.com/breaking-free. I would appreciate a review from you.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
    Blessings,
    Kevin Shorter

I understanding, your wanting to understand, all of this. However, please explain, why birds build nests? Most people, will say its instinct. Instinct is the name we use for “Neural Stamping”. If you understand that all these instincts, are passed down from generation to generation. So please try to fathom that all these beliefs, have been passed down to you. Dale Carnegie realized Darwin was right, In other words, what I’m saying, you were born, believing, there is a god. Religion, is just a control of the the masses, and if someone, says different, then they charged with heresy. People, go to war, and blow themselves up, for their belief in a god..
