At the root of salvation often rather clinical and theological technical terms such as monergism and synergism are used.  At their root and simplest definition and application monergism means God saves 100% and synergism means we have our part to play.  These detached terms, however, can be deceptive as to what really is at the root of salvation by Christ alone.  I.e. Monergism alone, per se, is not always what it claims to be, namely actual monergism.  Even the Pharisee prayed, “God, I give you praise because I am not like other men, who take more than their right, who are evil-doers, who are untrue to their wives, or even like this tax-farmer (Lk. 18:11).”  The Pharisee understood himself to be righteous not synergistically but monergistically and thus gave God “thanks and praise”, and not himself.  In reality no religion actually claims synergism, but always “thanks God” for his empowering…
