Gabrielle pulls a Wayne Arnold

The season premier for Desperate Housewives was on this evening. Remember that Wonder Years episode where Wayne Arnold told his brother Kevin to get into his car, then drove off a few feet when Kevin tried to do so? This embarrassed Kevin in front of a really pretty girl! Well, Gabrielle on Desperate Housewives tried the same trick with with her chubby 4-year-old daughter to make her get some exercise. It’s amazing how shows borrow off each other!

Not to mention that “Messing With Sasquatch” commercial!

Hmm, and you hadn’t figured that out before? There are at least a few plots that pretty much *every single sitcom* has recycled over and over again.

I remember even seeing an “I Love Lucy” sketch redone on the Disney Channel – of all places.

I just saw that! Who in his right mind would pull a Wayne Arnold on Bigfoot?

Actually, here’s a question that’s in biblical studies: is one source copying another specific source, or simply a motif that’s all over the place in the culture? I wonder if that Wayne Arnold trick was around even before the Wonder Years.

Also, it looks like Desperate Housewives is copying Desperate Housewives? Didn’t we have a murderous psycho who seemed like a nice person last season?
